Vehicle tracking provider DigiCore
has been selected by Sefton Council to develop and install a vehicle
tracking solution for its waste collection fleet. Under the agreement,
DigiCore’s C-track vehicle tracking system will be installed
on 25 new refuse collection vehicles that are being procured by
Sefton Council as part of a fleet replacement programme.
The vehicle tracking solution has been designed
to achieve a range of benefits including increased operating efficiencies
by reducing fuel usage; streamlined fleet operations through the
minimising of delays and missed collections; and enhanced customer
service as a result of improved management control.
Sefton Council recognised that fuel management
was a major challenge for their fleet operation, as each refuse
collection vehicle had fuel consumption of less than 5 mpg. With
this in mind, Sefton Council selected a vehicle tracking system
that could monitor and capture real-time movements to ensure vehicles
are driven efficiently, remain on-route, and ultimately maximise
their fuel performance.
Elsewhere, the C-track system will be used to
provide real-time and historical management information, so Sefton
Council can access precise data regarding work completion, missed
collections and proof of tipping. The system will also utilise in-vehicle
sensors to monitor the number of bins lifted to monitor levels of
participation for general household waste, business waste and recycling
within the region.
Jim Black, Assistant Director of Environmental
Protection Department within Sefton Council commented: “We
selected C-track because of the ease-of-use of the system and its
ability to add significant return on investment in terms of increased
operational control and enhanced service for our customers. It is
anticipated that the saving achieved from more efficient routing
and therefore reduced fuel usage will significantly contribute towards
the cost of the solution.”
Tom O’Connor, Managing Director of DigiCore
Ltd said: “We are delighted that Sefton Council has chosen
to work with DigiCore. This latest partnership demonstrates the
true versatility and functionality of the C-track system and its
ability to meet the needs of a diverse range of fleet operators.”

vehicle management tool. This proven solution provides vital information
about mobile assets and workforce, and offers a scaleable mobile
solution that meets the complex needs of car, van and commercial
vehicle fleet operators. |
Digicore to Provide Vehicle Monitoring System for BHP Billiton's Operations |
DigiCore has secured a three year agreement to provide
In-Vehicle Monitoring Systems (IVMS) and associated support, reporting
and management services for BHP Billiton’s global operations.
DigiCore, which has operations in 31 countries, will supply its C-track
IVMS and associated equipment and services to BHP Billiton’s
operations on a global basis.
DigiCore’s C-track offers IVMS services that include the ability
to control vehicle access, monitor driver behaviour, create fleet
management reports and actively warn the driver of any behavioural
breech.
Pre-determined areas can also be set for each vehicle operation per
driver and ‘Geo-Fencing’ technology is used to provide
easy-to-use information at site level. The C-track GPS/GPRS system
records detailed accident reconstruction data. It also enables the
manager to activate or disable certain features in the vehicle, like
speed governors, vehicle headlamps, revolving or flashing lights as
they enter pre-determined localities. If a vehicle is involved in
any incident, the system provides a user-friendly report on all aspects
being monitored by the IVMS. ‘The selection as BHP
Billiton’s IVMS supplier is really a feather in our cap particularly
after the grueling selection process. We are looking forward to working
with BHP Billiton to ensure they achieve their increased driver safety
standards throughout the world and as a bonus reduce the fleet’s
running costs” says DigiCore’s CEO Nick Vlok.
“As a South African company we are proud to be delivering world
class solutions to a global giant like BHP Billiton” says Bruce

was very close, but Trakker emerged as the best for the Municipality
requirements,' the Director General of Sharjah Municipality stated.
"Trakker Middle East will provide us with an efficient,
reliable, and useful fleet management system to better meet the increasing
demand for quality transport services. We are excited to be rolling
out this technology project for the benefit of our management, employees,

which will compliment their existing investments to run their operations
efficiently and reduce wastage. We look forward to working with Sharjah
Municipality on this project. Our system is designed to enhance their
operations and ultimately benefit those who rely on this critical
service on a daily basis. We intend to showcase the flexibility of
the system to meet the needs of organizations and individuals and
to take advantage of the sophisticated set of features that Trakker
offers," added Abdel Hadi.
'One of the most refreshing things was how well-versed they were with
the technology, which they needed to adapt rather than select a standard
product offering basic features based on a few factors. By virtue
of this contract, Sharjah Municipality can be proud of being included
along with these blue chip companies, simply because they recognized
what C-track Solo can do for them,' he concluded. |

eThekweni Municipality Heralds DigiCores fleet Management |
The effectiveness and reliability of the C-track vehicle
tracking and fleet management system had been emphasised with the
drastic reduction of vehicle abuse and the recovery of 12 stolen vehicles
of the eThekwini Municipality recently.
In the past the eThekwini Municipality were concerned that vehicles
in their R1.2 billion fleet, were being damaged and their lifespan
shortened by reckless driving and abuse. Following a R 35 Million
investment in The C-track satellite-monitored system these vehicles
can now be tracked in the event of a theft or hijacking and for the
monitoring of unauthorised use of the vehicles.
eThekwini Municipal Manager, Michael Sutcliffe says, "Due to the fact
that the C-track system tracks speed, harsh breaking, excess idling,
battery tampering and other infringements, we could manage our fleet
more effectively and ensure we have more driver control, monitoring
and correction."
'No-go zones' like shopping malls, can now also be programmed into
the system, ensuring drivers do not waste time and money. "The new
system will result in vehicles being used more effectively and serviced
more timeously, with the emphasis on management functionality," says
Sutcliffe.
90 Percent of fines incurred by municipal vehicles were speeding-related
and speed is considered to be the main contributor to serious accidents.
According to Sutcliffe, "We hoped that costs incurred from fines and
accidents would be considerably reduced if speeding was cut down.
Fuel costs would also be reduced as extra and unnecessary trips would
be eradicated." "DigiCore is proud to be part of the process
to assist eThekwini's management with world class technology driving
increased service delivery to the community while reducing operational
costs," says DigiCore CEO Nick Vlok.
Specific details of accidents can be tracked on a second-to-second
basis, including the speed of the vehicle before impact and at the
point of impact. The detailed information is admissible in court cases
and internal disciplinary hearings. |

Schoolbus tracking system to ease anxiety
of parents |
By Sunita Menon, Staff Reporter
Published: September 12, 2007, 00:29
Dubai: The constant worry of parents about the whereabouts of their
children has prompted a school to install Global Positioning System
(GPS), a tracking system, in their buses.
Michael Henry, Principal of Scholars International Academy, said safety
concerns is an issue and by opting to have a tracking system installed,
the school management has placed the interests of its pupils at the
forefront. The service is being made available by the school free
of cost. The system is being put in place by Trakker Middle East LLC,
a company based in Abu Dhabi. "Once the system is operational,
parents and the school management will have all the necessary information
on how the buses are being driven and their location," said Henry.
Explaining how the tracking system will operate, Saji John, sales
and marketing manager of the company, said the system will be able
to transmit the location and speed of the vehicle to the computer
server. "The school administration will have a network connection.
For parents we have a 24x7 dedicated call centre. They can call the
centre through a toll free number," said John. "Each parent will be
given a password by the school. When they make a call to the toll
free number it will ask the parent the password and the bus number
in which their child is traveling. In a few seconds parents will be
able to get the location of the vehicle," he said.
John said the system will also be applied to other school buses across
the emirates. "There are other schools in the UAE which have
shown an interest in getting the system for their school buses," he
said. Information: All 'schools should have
a similar software'
Many parents said the tracking system will help them to stay calm.
"There have been several instances when my five-year-old son has come
late. "The driver of the school bus blames the traffic for the delay.
I would panic if he gets late and call the school ... and wait anxiously
for his safe return," said Nandini Acharya, a working mother.
"My son attends an Indian curriculum school and parents are provided
with the mobile number of the bus supervisor, but it is of no use.
Generally, the supervisor fails to pick up our call the days when
the bus is late," said a parent.
Vineet G. Agnihotri, a parent, also had a similar experience. He said:
"Whenever the school bus is late we call the driver. At times the
driver does not pick up his phone and this leads to more panic. The
GPS (tracking system) will help us to get first-hand information on
where the bus is and why is it delayed."
David D'costa, another parent, said: "I think all schools should have
such or similar tracking system that would help the parents, the pupils
as well as the school management to streamline the transport system."
Abha Sahgal, Principal of Delhi Public School, Sharjah, said the GPS
system in school buses would bring down the anxiety level among parents
when the school buses run late.
She said: "It would save a lot of anxiety and also unnecessary tensions
that exist between the parents and the school when the school buses
bring children home late from school. It would better the relationship
between the school and parents. What is really important is that the
schools are getting information on the location of the buses." |

Bournemouth & West

Bournemouth & West Hampshire Water, the
water company serving 420,000 people in parts of Dorset, Hampshire
and Wiltshire, has appointed DigiCore to develop a vehicle tracking
solution for its fleet of cars, vans and commercial vehicles. Under
the agreement, 105 vehicles will be installed with DigiCore's innovative
C-track vehicle tracking and fleet management system to achieve
a range of operational and business benefits.
The vehicle tracking solution has been designed to support Bournemouth
& West Hampshire Water's ongoing business plan to achieve efficiencies
and promote best-practice throughout all areas of its operation.
Utilising the Ctrack system, the company expects to optimise its
fleet operation by reducing fuel usage, enhancing work practices
and planning, and improving customer service levels through faster
response times. |

Chevron cites tracking excellence |
Doug Drysdale is someone who understands the
importance of strategic vehicle monitoring. As Chevron’s official
Distributed Centre of Focus Fleet Optimisation coordinator
in Africa and Pakistan, Drysdale has established a sustainable
working relationship with fleet management tracking specialist,
DigiCore.
One of the largest integrated energy companies in the world, Chevron
conducts business activities in approximately 180 countries. “My
role is to identify best practice across the 22 countries making
up our region, as my four counterparts around the globe do,”
says Drysdale. “We have developed a standard global best practice
that we can adopt in driving towards ‘Operational Excellence’.
In this role, I report directly to our parent company, which
is based in California.” Chevron's Operational Excellence
Management System was recently recognised as being aligned with
world-class standards. The company is engaged in every aspect of
the oil and natural gas industries, including exploration and production;
refining, marketing and transportation; chemicals manufacturing
and sales; and power generation.
Chevron Marketing Logistics – Africa-Pakistan (known
as AFPK), consists of proprietary (own) bulk road tankers as well
as a hired tanker fleet and operates out of some 106 terminals.
“We have a fleet of 120 prime movers in South Africa,
with multiple mixed own and hire fleets across Africa and Pakistan,”
continues Drysdale. “Our Africa Pakistan Logistics business
unit employs some 1 200 personnel in that division alone. All of
the vehicles in our fleet are fitted with DigiCore’s C-Track
system and we are currently upgrading to Solo. Similarly, we pioneered
C-Track in Pakistan and Cambodia in the early days of selecting
DigiCore as our service provider.”
Bruce Richards, DigiCore group marketing director, says that Chevron
is a valued client:”Our strong relationship with Chevron is
a prime example of the numerous successful partnerships we have
achieved over the years. Our vision is to provide best-in-class
flexible fleet management solutions that deliver measurable business
benefits to vehicle fleet operators across the globe.”
According to Drysdale, the C-Track system was chosen from a plethora
of suppliers that had flooded the market. “One of the key
factors to the early selection was the underwriting of DigiCore
by a GMS network. Since those early days, the world of global procurement
sourcing has transformed into an independent assessor of solution
providers – to our own specification and standards –
and we are pleased to say that the offshore evaluation similarly
directed our purchasing towards DigiCore.
“We also specify the parameters that our appointed hauliers
must comply with in terms of compulsory fitment of onboard computers by
the end of 2006. We issue the specification, without stating the
make, but DigiCore is stringent in ensuring that the haulier can
produce the same type of reports.”
Recent successes in the AFPK regions have come in the form of the
standardisation of internal safety standards throughout the organisation
and the introduction of behavioural management programmes to achieve
a safety culture. “One of the key management tools identified
going forward has been the DigiCore C-Track Solo System, which features
the generation of ‘GYR’ (green, yellow, red) reports,”
continues Drysdale. “These green, yellow and red classifications
of driving behaviour make for easier, hands-on management of drivers
and will be used additionally to recognise sound, safe driving practices.
As a solution provider, colour coded reports are built up from three
main parameters of harsh braking, speeding and over-revving.
I would strongly recommend a greater focus by all transport managers
be made on harsh braking, and the parameters that are set up front,
for herein lie the real safe driving gains as well as the maintenance
benefits,” advises Drysdale.
He further asserts that most transport companies are quick to discipline,
but monitoring systems such as DigiCore’s C-Track also enable
operators to recognise and reward good driving practice. “The
present pioneering work being done across our region with DigiCore,
our partners of choice, has elicited a mixed reaction from staff
members. However, once the technology is understood, they quickly
embrace the benefits that the system offers, while training offered
by DigiCore is central to the ongoing successful attainment of
buy-in from staff.
“DigiCore is a solid partner which has grown with us in
our rapidly changing global requirements. Yes, we do have to chase
up the service aspect periodically, but its commitment, expertise and
professionalism keep us going as business partners.”
DigiCore systems have made a significant impact on the running
of operations and the AFPK regions have embraced the fleet management
aspects of the DigiCore system, as well as further defined requirements
that the Solo product range meets on bulk road tankers. A particularly
important aspect, in Drysdale’s view, has been the increase
in safety. “We once traced a hijacked tanker to a destination
where an unlawful delivery was being made to a third party
site. Thanks to the effectiveness of the DigiCore tracking system,
we were able to recover the vehicle and pump out the product. The
technology has made police investigations and prosecutions
much easier.
“We are currently in the process of testing vehicle monitoring
for all the company cars in our region as part of our safety
focus. This will represent a major expansion of our present onboard
monitoring activity. Our belief is that every employee has the right
to go home safely and we are continually looking at systems,
tools and processes to ensure safe operations for our employees
and our contractors,” concludes Drysdale. |

DigiCore Holdings Limited
Annual Results for the year ended 30 June 2006
|
INTRODUCTION
The board is extremely proud to announce great performance for the
fifth consecutive year. To achieve in excess of 57% growth
in attributable earnings on top of the 80% of our previous year
is a remarkable achievement from our management and staff. This
was achieved simultaneously with substantial start up expenses being
incurred while establishing our new C-track Secure stolen vehicle
recovery (SVR) division.
FINANCIAL RESULTS
Turnover grew by 28 % from R253 million to R323 million. Unit
sales increased by 52% over the year assisting us to increase operating
profit by 64% from R 57 million in 2005 to R94 million for the current
year.
Earnings per share increased by 53% to 32 cents per share from
21 cents per share in the previous year. Headline earnings per share
increased from 21 cents (2005) to 32 cents per share. These calculations
are based on a total weighted average of 198,572 million ordinary
shares in issue. The difference between the total number of shares
in issue and the weighted average number of shares in issue relates
to treasury shares held in the share trust.
Cash generated by operations grew from R29 million to R74 million.
Cash on hand increased by R13 million to R61 million. This
is after the payment of dividends, reduction in foreign borrowings,
investment in the United Kingdom subsidiary and additional marketing
spent of R9 million during this year. The group will continue
to manage its cash resources with prudence.
Trade receivables increased to R91 million due to exceptionally
high sales in June 2006. This balance has subsequently been reduced
to R 60 million with the payment of the trade receivables and cash
in bank had increased by a similar amount by the end of July 2006.
Inventory holding as a percentage of revenue is now at an acceptable
level compared with high inventory holding experienced at the end
of the previous year end.
Our 51% European subsidiary has grown turnover 81 %, contributing
R6,5 million to our consolidated profit for the period, while at
the same time reducing foreign loans. The total European strategy
is on track as per the original business plan and expectations.
During the year we have invested into our United Kingdom distributor
in purchasing a 50.1% shareholding in the business. This has
enabled the business to be poised for rapid expansion and growth.
OPERATIONS
The ongoing building and maintaining of customer relationships and
the bedding down of new technology in the previous year is starting
to show good results. Our technology allows customers to decrease
their monthly operating costs, which helped grow turnover to R323
million.
This year has seen the full scale launch of our stolen vehicle
recovery C-track Secure product. Since January 2006 we have
deployed a full team to market and install this product in a separate
division. Although we have not fully reached all our goals,
the division broke even in the last quarter and is set to contribute
towards our profitability in the future.
An advertising campaign was launched on television and on regional
radio stations which gave us our first exposure to the man in the
street. We have gained some valuable experience over the period
and trust that we will see the benefits in years to come.
In South Africa we have improved our customer service strategy
by increasing and training our staff to keep up with customer demands
and technological challenges and will continue to do so with vigor.
INTERNATIONAL
The international business has been growing through our well-established
distribution channels. We have signed distribution contracts
with six new companies across Europe, Middle East and Asia.
The intensified operational cooperation between DigiCore Europe
BV and C-track Benelux BV has lead to sharing of expertise that
greatly improved sales and marketing into the other European countries.
The European subsidiary has successfully expanded our footprint
into Finland, Central France, Italy as well as the Southern part
of Germany where DigiCore Holdings will support the sales and marketing
effort. Our ultimate goal is to build a distribution network
to service Europe holistically.
Our investment in the UK has enabled the company to grow the team
and move into more suitable offices and we trust that the benefits
will be forthcoming during next year.
The Pakistan operation has again met our expectations with good
growth in unit sales and has strengthened its number one position
in the area.
TECHNOLOGY
The technology team has implemented an information “Gateway”
or “Hub” making it possible to service our customers
better and cut their cost through the implementation of GPRS in
transferring more data at a reduced tariff from the cellular network
providers. At the same time this increased our customer involvement
thus creating another annuity based revenue stream.
Optimising the hardware designs also assisted in reduced manufacturing
cost, thus protecting our margins which has resulted in not having
to increase prices to our valued customers. The Development
Team has been further strengthened during the year and a new and
dedicated Product Support division was established to provide dedicated
training and technical support to the expanding international distributors.
BLACK ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT (BEE)
An innovative BEE transaction in our South Africa Fleet Management
business was concluded. This deal will not only give us the required
equity credentials, but will add real value to this business in
future with the expertise that our partners bring. The Group
also appointed our first black executive director in this newly
formed subsidiary, working full time to achieve our goals set for
the coming years. Our BEE partners will in particular add
value to our finance, legal, human resources and sales and marketing
divisions. The Group remains committed to grow all the other
pillars of Broad Based Black Economic empowerment to ensure a truly
South African business.
THE FUTURE
A continuation in development of world class software and hardware
will ensure we meet the basic needs of every vehicle owner on the
Globe and will remain one of our major goals. We will continue
to dominate the markets we select to operate in, through this world
class technology.
Further accelerated International expansion will be part of our
strategy going forward. It is our intention to strengthen
and grow this division to identify new markets and distributors,
as well as to providing support to ensure that they achieve success
even quicker than in the past.
We have embarked on entering the SVR market and will continue to
build on the foundations laid during the reporting period.
Several agreements have been entered into and the required approvals
achieved to enable us to make inroads into this market.
This will allow for the future growth and long-term sustainability
of the group.
DIVIDEND ANNOUNCEMENT
In line with the company policy, the board has declared a final
dividend of 6 cents (2005: 4 cents) per share. This is after
the company paid an interim dividend of 4 cents (2 cents) per share
in April 2006.

C-track

with a 24 hour one-of-a-kind call centre for the convenience of
its customers.
Speaking at a media conference held at Le Meridian Hotel in Abu
Dhabi yesterday, Sunday 18th of December 2005, to announce the product
launch, Naim Abdul Hadi, General Manager, Trakker Middle East,
"This latest system will add value to the growing transport
business in the UAE and the GCC region, giving more control to owners
and allowing them to monitor their mobile assets better. In today's
world, information is critical not only for businesses but also
individuals. Fleet management and vehicle location based services
are an essential part of any business and the demand for top-end
products such as C-track, backed by service and support is increasing
day by day. The experience of Trakker Pakistan of the last six years
will no doubt add value where we wish to offer a brand new concept
of service to our customers. Now even individuals can keep an eye
on the chauffer driven cars by installing C-track and achieve peace
of mind like never before."
Also present, Ali Jameel, CEO, Trakker Pvt. Pakistan and Board
Member Trakker Middle East said, 'Fleet management has emerged as
a thriving business in the region, given the quantum jump in the
UAE's import, export and trans-shipment trade, logistics, distribution
and supply chain services, and the massive expansion in the country's
ports and airports. C-track offers an innovative and cost-effective
solution to companies and individuals, doing away with the need
to set up dedicated units for fleet management and tracking functions.'
Trakker Middle East LLC offers C-track in two distinctive packages
designed to suit specific requirements. C-track is an onboard computer,
fitted in the vehicle and connects to the Global Positioning System
(GPS) through a tamper proof digital system, determining the vehicles
position in terms of latitude and longitude, which is then transmitted
through the GSM network and plotted onto a digitized map. This is
done using C-track's proprietary software with a host of services.
Now customers with one or 3000 vehicles can subscribe to the service
after installing C-track.
C-track Solo, the flagship product, is suitable for large fleet
owners, taxi operators and specialized fleet management requirements
as it easily integrates with various third party hardware and applications.
The product enables the Trakker Call Center to keep track of the
vehicle's movement at all times, and also gather information regarding
location, speed, status of the vehicle, time, date and the vehicle
ID, RPM, engine performance and other information required for data
analysis.
C-track Assist has been developed specifically for medium sized
fleets and individuals with full fleet management capability and
is ideal for insurance, leasing and rent-a-car fleets. C-track Assist
enables the user to keep track of vehicles at all times, ensuring
security of the car and its passengers. Again the Trakker Call Centre
provides the necessary support.
Trakker Middle East LLC also offers its customers Trakker Bureau
Services (TBS), which is a consultancy service for vehicle data
analysis for fleet and corporate customers. On behalf of Trakker
customers, the department acts as an independent professional consultancy
wing and provides fleet support and services; uses data analysis
and reports to provide value added services to its customers in
terms of fleet management, trip management, data analysis and detailed
reporting.
The Trakker Bureau Services also emphasizes on key operational
indicators based on competencies and vertical markets when assembling
data for customers and relies on technology and sophisticated information
systems to facilitate customer fleet overview in order to depict
key operational indicators.
The most unique feature in the 24 hour Trakker Call Centre based
in Abu Dhabi, established with the vision to nullify a customer’s
administrative costs payable when buying current systems is the
knowledge that Trakker is keeping an eye on the vehicles all year
round. This allows even small fleets and individuals to install
C-track, which was not possible before due to high costs of implementation.
Both Solo and Assist customers can opt for C-track Base Station
or sign up to Web Track, an Internet-tracking facility, which enables
them to connect to the Trakker website and view their vehicle's
information. An additional feature is Cell Track, offering to interact
directly with the vehicle through an authorized cell phone registered
at the Trakker Call Centre.
The company will support customers with a network of dealers across
the UAE offering sales, installation and maintenance services. In
addition, a fleet of mobile service teams will ensure prompt service
to the customers even at their own locations through the Trakker
Call Centre and Trakker Bureau Services offering 24-hour support.
C-track is installed in over 130,000 vehicles globally and is recognized
as a leader in the global telematics market, driving down costs
and increasing vehicle productivity and peace of mind for customers. |

requirements as it easily integrates with various third party hardware
and applications. C-track Assist is more suited for medium size
fleets with full fleet management capability and ideal for insurance,
leasing and rent-a-car fleets. Another unique feature is the C-track
Secure, our family product being introduced primarily for individuals
and small fleet owners who are interested in monitoring unauthorized
driving, misuse, over speeding, leaving preferred areas etc. by
simply using their cell phone or the internet. For Solo or Assist
customers can opt for C-track Base station or sign up to Web Track,
an internet tracking facility.
All products will be backed by a 24 hour Call Centre
providing on-line customer service related to location of vehicles,
processing of report requests, maintenance support and meeting customers’
specific requests regarding their fleets. Customers will be supported
from offices located in Abu Dhabi and Dubai with a network of dealers
across UAE offering sales, installation and maintenance services.
In addition, a fleet of mobile service teams will ensure prompt
service to the customers even at their own locations. |
